Parikartika (Anal Fissure) in Ayurveda What is an Anal Fissure? In Ayurveda, an anal fissure is known as Parikartika, meaning "cutting pain." It is a small tear or crack in the lining of the anus, causing pain, bleeding, and discomfort, especially during bowel movements. Causes (Nidana) of Parikartika According to Ayurveda, Parikartika occurs due to an imbalance in Vata and Pitta doshas, leading to dryness, inflammation, and irritation. Common causes include: Chronic constipation (hard stools tearing the anal lining) Prolonged diarrhea (irritation of anal tissues) Excess intake of spicy, oily, and junk foods Low water and fiber intake Straining during bowel movements Pregnancy and childbirth (due to pressure on the anal region) Symptoms (Lakshana) of Anal Fissure
